Ok folks, I thought it was a joke.. Getting paid for blogging. Only people like Dooce (who has the savvy to market the system), makes $$ enough to live on, right?
Well, it aint necessarily so. Because here I am in podunk, USA and voila! I just got my 1st paycheck from PayPerPost. Granted, I won't be paying off the mortgage w/ it, & it may not even finance the thick-burger at Hardees.. but it's on the up & up.
So now I have this incentive to see if things that I would normally say anyway, might just bring in some pocket change for the 'cruise' fund.

We had some much needed rain here in east TN. I can finally stop the 'rain dance' for awhile & just enjoy nature's bounty.
Box turtles are everywhere on the roads.. going back to their birthplaces to hook up w/ the opposite sex. Seems incestuous I know.. sort of like attending a family reunion looking for a date.
The hummingbirds are very active. I noted a 5-way 'fight' for the feeder yesterday. Territorial little fellows.
Gray squirrels are eating us out of house & home at the backyard feeder. But they won't eat Brie. So don't even try. Gouda was fine.. maybe it's a France thing.
We have a wild turkey feeder out at the back pasture line. Haven't seen any feathered friends, but I'll bet the rodents are saying, 'To whom do we owe this bounty??'
Golden finches are all over those thistle bags at the front yard feeder. It must be like 'weed' to them, because they practically fly loop-de-loops after nibbling there. They'll bypass suet, sunflower seeds, & fruit.. for a shot at the thistles.
The indigo blue buntings are back (I have no idea where they vacationed). Books tell us that they are actually black-feathered, but the prism of the light creates the startling vivid blue color. Sounds like more 'junk science' to me.. I know blue when I see it.
The cats are all well. Playing 'sneak attack' on each other & running laps during the 1 hour that they're awake. I was awakened this morning w/ Tabitha sitting on my chest.. geez, I thought I was having a heart attack.. such heaviness. She's the 1/2 cat who only allows us to see her when 'she' decides. So I guess I should feel honored. She likes her people horizontal.
My sweet man is putting me in a new sink today.
Does life get any better than that?
Am I the same woman who once had to have a day long shopping spree followed by a night of frantic dancing, to feel fully alive?

Senators Assail Brokaw Over Global Warming

The Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works has issued a release attacking former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw for what it calls the “lack of objectivity” in his July 16 documentary about global warming.
According to the release from the committee, which is chaired by Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe, that lack of objectivity “compromised” and “tainted” the Discovery Channel documentary, “Global Warming: What You Need to Know.”
“Brokaw’s partisan past and his reliance on scientists who openly endorsed Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004 and who are financially affiliated with left wing environmental groups, has resulted in a documentary that is devoid of balance and objectivity,” the release reads in part. The release states that Roger Pielke, professor of atmospheric sciences at Colorado State University, viewed an advance copy of the Brokaw special and declared that it contained “errors and misconceptions.” He wrote that it could mislead the public “on the broader view that is actually held by most climate scientists.” The release continues: “Unfortunately, viewers should not expect a scientifically balanced view of the climate from the former NBC newsman” who “has called the science behind catastrophic human-caused global warming ‘irrefutable . . .’
“Brokaw’s partisan environmental credentials are so firmly established that the former anchor was offered a job in the Clinton-Gore administration to be the director of the National Park Service in 1993 . . . Brokaw’s wife also serves as vice president of the environmental group Conservation International.”
The release points out that Brokaw presents NASA’s James Hansen as an authority on climate change “without revealing to viewers the extensive political and financial ties that Hansen has to Democratic Party partisans. Hansen . . . received a $250,000 grant from the charitable foundation headed by former Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz. “Subsequent to the Heinz Foundation grant, Hansen publicly endorsed Democrat John Kerry for president in 2004, a political endorsement considered to be highly unusual for a NASA scientist.”
Calling the Brokaw documentary “disappointing,” the release from the Senate committee notes that it has led climatologist Pielke – who has authored more than 275 peer-reviewed journal articles on climate – to conclude that Brokaw presents “flawed science” and “a narrow view of the issue of natural and human climate variability and change.”

President Bush's most senior aides -- the ones who hold the coveted title of "assistant to the president" -- recently received a $4,200 cost-of-living bump-up in compensation and now earn a top pay rate of $165,200, according to an internal White House list of staff salaries. The list was compiled by the administration for the year that ended June 30 and is displayed both alphabetically, and by dollar ranking, below. Those at the bottom of the White House staff pay scale -- the folks answering phones and responding to the president's mail, for example -- remain stuck at last year's pay floor of $30,000, according to a year-to-year comparison of White House data obtained by National Journal.
At that level, the White House aide who keeps a log of the gifts sent to the president makes about as much as the average starting pay for a public school teacher. At $15 an hour, that's almost three times the national minimum wage of $5.15. (Congress is debating this summer whether to raise the minimum wage, while the administration prefers to leave it where it is).

Aptly titled! For a punk ass war..

It's hard to believe that it's July already. These lazy hazy crazy daze of summer..
We have now gone thru all 4 seasons of east TN & are still as in love w/ it as the day we 1st laid eyes on her. The 'seasons' were probably what drew us here in the 1st place.. having not experienced them in many moons. I do not even count my MO. time as 'seasonal' since they only had 2.. severe summer & extreme winter. Before that short period of self-inflicted solitude, my time had been in AZ & afterwards in FL. Gorgeous yr round, but no changes.
So to experience the joys of new growth, new birth, & new scents & feels here in TN is still like an 'E' ride at Disney. (You have to be really old to recall the old ticket books from DisneyLand, where the rides went from the Baby 'A' rides to the death defying 'E' rides.)

The cats are all sprawled across the back porch, trying to find some coolness in the timbers there. As far as I can figure, they sleep 23 hrs a day, & then run laps around our bedroom from 4-5 am. What a life. And for these spoiled-rotten feline, we will make the 1/2 hr trek to the next town to buy the only food they will eat. Factoring in the $3 a gal gas price, they are sooo walking a thin line here.

The baby bird living precariously up over the front porch light is growing by leaps & bounds. Little gray feathered head pops up to take a peek at us occasionally. He'd better watch it.. he lost his brother when he tried the same trick..
And mama bird will dive bomb our heads if she thinks we're getting too close. So we've limited out front porch setting until the little one fledges.
More babies are living in the bow of the canoe (that sits belly up on top of the travel trailer).
I just hope they develop their wanderlust before our next camping soiree.

The bunnies-in-the-clover are getting braver, widening their circles of exploration everyday. So brave in fact, to come nibble on my gladiolas.. dang 'em. But how can you stay mad at those furry bowling balls?

And yes, I still have about 50 things listed on my 'Honey-do' list for us to make the cabin more hospitable & welcoming. But I refuse to let that get in the way of just breathing in this clean mtn air, drinking straight from my pristene well (via the tap, of course), & seeing how many mountain ranges I can count on any given day (so far, I've topped out at 11). We sit atop the 12th. In numerolgy 12=3, the number of 'balance'.. & that pretty much describes life here on the homesite.. very balanced.
