Me oh my.. the world continues to turn, & we have maintained our grasp on it's whirlingness. Katrina leaves her indelible mark on the southern states of the Gulf. New Orleans is busy creating 'toxic soup' from the spilled oil rigs, popped open coffins, over-filled septic tank run-offs, and just general washed up trash. Brewing something that will taint the lovely lady for decades to come. I'm glad I got to visit her so many times in the past, when she was the 'Jewel-of-the-South'. Personally I don't think my waistline could take another hit of those Cajun delicacies anyway. Any city that starts out EVERY recipe w/ 'Take one lb of buttah..' can only be adding to my cholesterol overload. But lawdy, how I did love that food! (I wouldn't be requesting the oysters & shrimp after this poison 'soup', if I were you..)

In Iraq, US soldiers just killed another Reuters journalist, bringing their 'kills' up to 66. More than the # of journalists killed in all 20 yrs of the VietNam fracas.
Nothing is scared anymore.. & certainly free speech has taken a big hit in VietRaq.
To add to our downward spiraling (free fall) lack of credibility, comes word that a whistleblower has been fired by the Army, for calling Halliburton the sidewinding thieves that they are. Truth = demotions/firings. Lies = promotions/new contracts. Just ask Gen Richard Sanchez of the Iraqi prison-torturing fame, how he got his new 4th 'star'.. that's right.. lies/cover-ups/good ole boy's club.
Anybody who dares to complain about the goings-on in Iraq is subject to a gut-smashing end to their careers. Whether it be about needing more troops for the mission, to not having a clear exit strategy.. mention one word of it to the general public & get a rapid-fire "you're fired!" worthy of the Donald.

It's not all doom & gloom on this sunny Monday. Over the wk-end I have packed up most of our home, for the impending move to TN. Which included the glass inserts in all my coffee & end tables. The cats, proving not to be the sharpest knives in the drawer, keep jumping up on them.. immediately falling thru to the floor. I know, it's an evil source of amusement, but it makes me laugh. And they walk haughtily away, giving me their 'death ray' squints for disrespecting their furry selves.
Hey, let them complain to the man who buys their catnip. And watch them get demoted faster than they can say 'meow?'
Comments:
Once upon a time, I posted this quote on my blog. Your comments about people not being allowed to speak up reminded me of it.

Hermann Goering @ the Nuremborg Trials:

"...It is always a simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."

(Hehehehhee @ your cats. What a funny image!)

Great quote! And frighteningly true.

It's also amazing to me that Kerry lost the election because he was painted as a "flip flopper" - ummm, what about George?

The man talks about nothing but his superior ethics and morals...yet he promotes and protects anyone despite their obvious lack of such traits. Rove leaks a name - protect him! Gonzales likes torture - promote him! Rummy was waaaay off on pre-war estimates and now we're up to our ears in debt and body bags - keep him on board!

Absurd. What are we teaching our kids??

We're teaching them by example.. you lie, cheat & steal.. INSTANT REWARDS! And don't forget to repay the scoundrels who promoted you. It's just sick.

Read today in The Guardian that McCarthyite "witch hunts" are now in progress against the 3 leading scientists in global climate change - Micheal Mann, Director of the Earth System Science Centre at Pennsylvania State University; Raymond Bradley, Director aof the Climate System Research Centre at the University of Massachusetts; and Malcom Hughes, former Director of the Laborarory of Tree-Ring Research at the University of Arizona.

The witch-hunts (sorry, investigations) have been instigated by that pillar of impartiality, Joe Barton, Chairman of the House of Representatives committee on energy and commerce. His very close links to the fossil-fuel lobby is purely a coincidence! Basically, these scientists have been required to turn over to the committee ALL details of their sources of funding, their methodology and everything they have ever published. Why do I get the feeling that this is not because the committee believe in climate change, but for holes in the arguement that the fossil-lobby can utilise.

Strangely, the strongest comdenation I've heard came from a fellow Republican; Sherwood Boehlert, chairman of the House science committee wrote to ".. express my strenuous objections to what I see as the misguided and illegitimate investigation." Clearly, someone not quite on message!

Sorry for going on a bit, and thanks for the plug for my blog. I try to call it as I see it - but mainly as I feel it. Fingers crossed for the move.

That's a very interesting comment Mark.. it just gets curiouser & curiouser doesn't it?
We are bleeding out the eyeballs for oil now.
Get me to a faraway island.
